ZELEON'S DEATH

A Song to Lament the Death of King Zeleon XXXII of Malend, Last of his Line,
Fallen in Battle against Rhidauna.

From then on, Malend was part of Rhidauna.
The sword is, of course, Childegard, King Ghyll's mighty blade and friend.

The Goddess Moon
Spread silvery light
Across wild field and weald

The stars along
Her tired face
Stared down on battle held

Their splendor crown'd
The bronze-forged helm
That Zeleon's kingship spell'd

In Moonlight's shine
Zeleon hew'd,
Another hostile felled

The King held up
His mighty sword;
Honor'd it with acclaim

The foeman cried;
That reckless blade
Defeated him again

A bowman from
Rhidauna’s camp,
Desiring vengeful fame

With silent hand
At stretched string,
Accrued eternal shame

As his cold shaft
Villainous pierced
Zeleon's Kingly brain

Still'd Royal will
And mighty sword;
Made iron fist detain

All Malend weeped,
Its voice fell still;
Zeleon King was slain

The Hero dead;
His lands are lost.
His people bound in chain.

But once you will
Rise up again;
A mighty king be found.

And you will be
A people free
On Malend's sacred ground.
